Being diagnosed with sight problems can be an extremely traumatic and emotional time in someone’s life and the Society is often one of the first places people turn to for support and advice. Many are referred to the Society by Social Services and the Sunderland Eye Clinic.
The Society will very shortly launch a Telephone Support and Befriending Service which will be administered by a team of visually impaired volunteers specially recruited, trained and managed by us.
The Society maintains a directory of useful contacts which may be of help to blind and partially sighted people. This includes information on social and recreational activities.
Opportunities are always available to meet other blind and visually impaired people through meetings, outings and holidays.
