Computing Mentoring and Assistive Technology Support
If you have any questions regarding all the types of Assistive Technology available or if you would like to increase your digital skills then please contact John Walls at our Pallion office on 0191 567 3939.
We are able at Pallion and Cecil Court or via home visits to offer one to one computer mentoring by our small dedicated team. We demonstrate various software packages that enable the blind and visually impaired to use computers, phones and tablets. You do not need to have used a digital device before as mentoring is tailored to the individual needs of the person whether a novice or advanced computer user. Mentoring sessions usually last an hour a week for up to 12 weeks.
If you own a laptop and would rather learn on that we are happy for you to bring it in otherwise we use the computers at Pallion.
Software Packages on the computers include:
- Dolphin Supernova Access Suite.
- Dolphin Guide.
- Jaws.
- Fusion
- Microsoft Office.
- NVDA
- Seeing AI
- Envision
We also offer help with iPads, Smartphones, Tablets, Google and Alexa devices in setting up and using them to improve your quality of life. Also we can download RNIB audio books onto your Amazon Alexa free of charge or setup a Firestick so that you can control your TV and access channels by using voice commands..
For further information or to book a free home visit please contact the Office on 0191 567 3939 or email john.walls@sundrsb.org.uk
