Free digital inclusion sessions aimed at supporting visually impaired people are set to launch in Sunderland this spring, offering vital skills and access to life-changing technology.
Run by the Sunderland and County Durham Royal Society for the Blind, the sessions will take place at 53 St Luke’s Road, Pallion, every Tuesday from 10:00am, starting May 5th, 2026. The initiative is designed to help people with sight loss gain confidence using everyday digital devices.
Participants will be introduced to a range of assistive technologies, including Rayban Meta Ai glasses, screen readers, magnifiers, braille devices, and accessible smartphone features. These tools can enable users to read text, browse the internet, send messages, and access essential services independently.
Organiser John Walls says the sessions are not only about learning new skills, but also about improving confidence and reducing isolation. By equipping attendees with practical knowledge of the latest technology available, the free sessions aims to ensure visually impaired people can stay connected in an increasingly digital world.
The sessions are free to attend, and those interested can find out more or book a place by calling 0191 567 3939.
We will be looking to offer these services across County Durham in the future as well.
