Well done to Joanne Peverley, who works for the Society as a Community Sight Loss Officer and her sister Gemma Baldassarra, completed a challenge for themselves in February 2026 of walking 100 miles in 28 days. This was a sponsored walk for the Society. Joanne and Gemma walked around Sunderland, along Roker and Seaburn seafront’s and even around York to ensure they hit their target of 100 miles over the month. They both completed walks of between 3.5 miles and 6 miles per day together. They completed their target within 28 days and walked 100 plus miles and altogether walked 219,373 steps in total. Joanne and Gemma raised a total of £1278.00 for the Society.
